The time is now to truly address the achievement gap.

Student leaders from MCPS’s Minority Scholars Program (MSP) have decided that the time is now to step up and truly address the achievement gap that plagues our nation’s academic system. In a groundbreaking and historic move, members of MSP have decided to march from MCPS headquarters to the steps of the County Courthouse in Rockville, in an effort to raise awareness about this most pressing issue , highlight the efforts and successes of MSP and garner support from citizens, businesses, politicians and other stakeholders.

The Minority Scholars Program was launched 8 years ago as a student-driven initiative whose primary objective is to bring an end to the achievement gap. Beyond the college trips, tutoring, speakers, and leadership workshops in which they participate, MSP members have now decided that they must make their efforts more widely known in order to push this movement along and bring to bear a real solution to the problem. To that end, MSP members, along with students, teachers, parents, and community members from all over Montgomery county, will take to the streets of Rockville on Sunday, April 27, from 1 to 3 p.m., to “March to Close the Gap.”

Join us in this groundbreaking and historic effort. Show these students—the future of our country—that the people of Montgomery county can and will unite to help bring an end to the achievement gap right here in Montgomery county, Maryland.
